Musket & Pike 4.05.1 Updates

Its been a couple of months since War of the Austrian Succession released, and as is our norm we are now bringing you updates to the balance of the Musket & Pike series.

We're happy to report that only one relatively rare engine problem has been discovered since release which related to a scripting error in certain circumstances. So today we roll out the 4.05.1 updates to the entire series. As mentioned in the release post, quite a few of these changes have been put in place for other games currently in development. One such was called out in this post, American Revolutionary War. Here's a list of the new features that have been added to the engine:

And thanks to our very active development team changes have been made to several of the games to take advantage of these changes, where appropriate. Most of these changes took place at the PDT level.

**Note: It is suggested that you complete ongoing games before applying these updates, for everything but WAS. For WAS, it is similar enough that you should be able to apply mid game without issue.

As we continue to improve and enhance the code we also uncover a variety of issues and oddities — some of recent origin, others that have been around for many years. We keep squashing those bugs as we find them. Several of the fixes are related to underlying processes such as retreat paths or shading issues. Work continues on the AI routines as well to refine and improve them.

Further in this update, we're rolling out the new style "Block" 2D counters for all the games. These first made an appearance in WAS and we think they are a nice enhancement.

Great Northern War

Renaissance

Seven Years War

Thirty Years War

Vienna 1683

War of the Austrian Succession

If you happen to prefer the older style Block symbols you can still use those. We've kept a copy of the relevant files in the \Map\Alt folder. These files are 2DSymbols100a.bmp & 2DSymbols50a.bmp.

Also, for those who may be vision impaired we've added a subfolder with a "High-Contrast" set of 2D ground titles, which can be copied up to the main \Map folder overwriting the existing files.

If you performed a clean install of your games on the last round of updates, you can just head on over to the M&P Support Page and grab the 4.05.1 update for your game(s). If not, you can go to your Store Account and download full up-to-date installers for each game.

As always, if you want to chat with others about this series or possibly find an opponent you can visit of dedicated forums for the M&P series.

We hope you enjoy these updates as you dig into the rich history and content these games bring to you.

@William, this map and another are part of the War of the Austrian Succession game. Gustav Ståhlberg created them. His website is – https://www.deviantart.com/imperialmaps – he also did a couple for our Crusades game.

    Thanks for the updates!

Maybe a silly question, but where are you getting the maps from you use in these blogs? They look fantastic

I’ll be Superficial, but this is the best news for me:

Further in this update, we’re rolling out the new style “Block” 2D counters for all the games. These first made an appearance in WAS and we think they are a nice enhancement.

    Thank you for the update.

@Hairen – the intent there is to prevent players from breaking their units down into extended line, as that would not have been a regular practice during this time period. Unlike the more flexible time of the Napoleonic age.

And 300 units are not able to stand side by side, hence the “Front” value not being 100%.
