Panzer Campaigns Philippines ’44 – Pre-Release Reading

Hello everyone,

We are hopeful of releasing the latest instalment in the Panzer Campaigns series in the next couple of weeks. To prepare you all we are providing links to some of the additional material that will ship with the game.

For background, Panzer Campaigns Philippines ’44 will cover the Allied operations in the Philippines in 1944 and 1945. Both the Leyte and Luzon landings and subsequent operations will be covered, culminating in the liberation of Manila and the final clearing of Luzon in June 1945.

Rarely, have titles covered this battle and seventy-six scenarios of various sizes are planned for inclusion. With low unit density, inhospitable terrain and very large maps, there are both opportunities and challenges in playing the various engagements.

We are indebted to Akira Takizawa, a long term member of the Axis History Forum https://forum.axishistory.com/ who provided us with both access and translation of a range of Japanese records, as well as insights into the doctrine and structure of the Japanese forces available. We are particularly proud of the order of battle for this title, with many interesting and exotic forces on the Japanese side. Akira also provided a lot of information on ‘who was where’ and it was obvious that the Japanese forces were regularly broken down and sent to different locations, rather than fighting as a whole formation. All these nuances are reflected in the various scenarios.

We hope the following materials will give you an idea of what will be included in game and the design considerations as this title was created.

My Filipino wife’s uncle, Tito Vic, survived the Bataan Death March! Philippines ‘41-’42, yes please!

Thank you for continuing the series. A lot of comments about grandfathers serving in the Philippines. My grandfather was on Corregidor in ‘41-’42. Ultimately, a Japanese POW for 42 months. To the question above, I hope this is setting the stage for a ’41 – ’42 series. Not a lot of detailed history on how the battle developed other than backing the U.S. on to the Bataan peninsula and pretty well known what happened from there. Again, thanks for continuing to bring us interesting content.

Looks very interesting and maybe worth an investment.

My father-in-law’s Aviation Engineer Battalion ended up in the Philippines but very late and probably would not have been a unit to include in the US OB
My grandfather also served in the Philippines…during the Philippine Insurrection in 1900.

Is it under consideration to use the same map and do a Philippines ’41-42 game?

Thank you so much! My grandfather would be pleased to know that this campaign, where he earned his CIB as an infantryman in the 6th I.D. Speaking of the “Sight Seeing Sixth” I don’t see them listed in the OoB. They were there from the start, landing at Lingayen on Jan. 9.. Hoping they were included! Again, thank you WDS!!!

I think the Game that goes begging is a combined operations naval and land campaign in 42 & 43 in the Solomons & New Guinea.
