And then they were One!

On November 19, 2021, Wargame Design Studio officially began operations. Where has the last year gone?!

What a big first year it has been! We will save the recap for our end of year blog post, but rather we would like to celebrate and give you all the gifts!

Firstly, today we have released the twenty-sixth title in the Panzer Campaigns series, Panzer Campaigns Rumyantsev ‘43. The longevity of the series stretches back to the original Panzer Campaigns Smolensk ’41 released way back in 1999.

Rumyantsev ’43 covers the fourth and final battle for Kharkov in August 1943 and was designed by Daniel (Dani) Asensio. You can learn more about the new game in our latest blog post here or buy it if you so wish on this link: Rumyantsev ’43 Product page

That said, what is a gift if you must pay for it? So, we are also releasing three new or updated Demo titles today for free!

Little Big Horn is the Early American War Series Demo. This fascinating title covers the historic battle along the Little Big Horn River in Montana in 1876 between the U.S. 7th Cavalry and the gathered tribes of the Sioux and Northern Cheyenne.

The description from the title’s web page is as follows:

Little Big Horn includes 5 Scenarios – covering small to large sized situations, including two small solo tutorial scenarios plus a full battle scenario covering June 25th - 26th. The other two scenarios are Reno's Valley Fight and Battle Ridge.

The master map (45,000 hexes) includes all the significant locations fought over in this engagement.

The order of battle file covers the U.S. 7th Cavalry and Native American forces that participated in the battle.

A Scenario Editor allows players to customize the game to create their own situations to explore "what if" situations.

A Getting Started guide is included to assist players to learn the game.

Little Big Horn provides multiple play options including play against the computer AI, Play by E-mail (PBEM), LAN & Internet "live" play as well as two player hot seat.

Our second ‘new’ demo is the resurrection of the John Tiller Software, Modern Air Power Demo. Quite a bit of work has been done by the WDS team on the MAP engine over the last year adding features that were previously in the professional editions of the software. The previous Modern Air Power Demo was not well known as it was buried on the JTS site, so we are hopeful that it will get a little more exposure this time around.

The description from the title’s web page is as follows:

The Modern Air Power Demo covers a hypothetical engagement between the United States of America and North Korea over the Korean peninsula.

The Demo will give you the opportunity to learn about air operations from Air Superiority to Air Mobility. You command a number of different modern aircraft such as the F-22, F-35, B-2 stealth bomber, CV-22 Osprey, and E-3 AWACS. You face modern enemy aircraft such as the Su-30 fighter under the control of an Artificial Intelligence opponent.

This free release of the Modern Air Power Demo gives you the chance to learn the interface and get familiar with how to manage advanced air combat.

A Getting Started guide is included to assist players to learn the game.

The Civil War Battles Demo was released earlier this year in June. It launched with three scenarios based on the Battle of Briscoe Station in October 1863. We are adding two more scenarios from the Battle of Williamsburg in May 1862. These are the same scenario, but the first has inclement weather included.

The Civil War Battles Demo is the first title in the series updated to 4.02. The primary upgrade here is the inclusion of speed controls which allow you to run the game much faster, even during the players turn as well as allowing pausing of replays and when the AI has control of the turn. No more missing what’s happening because the phone rang!

You can get The Civil War Battles Demo direct from its product page here: Civil War Battles Demo Product Page

If you already have downloaded a copy of the Civil War Battles Demo, please grab the 4.02 patch from this link here: Civil War Battles Demo 4.02 Patch

Here are a few shots from the game of the new Williamsburg scenario. All can be clicked for full size.

Finally, and most importantly the WDS Menu program has been updated to version 4.02, necessary to handle these newly released titles.

You can download the latest Menu Program from the direct link here: Menu Program Download

So, happy birthday to you all! Thank you for all your support over the past year. Without you we would not be able to create the games we are.

Let us know what you think about all that is new today, we would love to hear!

Congratulations on 1 Year birthday and thanks for the updates and the demo.
I cannot seem to make the latest (4.02 )menu programme work. I have downloaded it so could you give me simple instructions to install it please. I have 6 ACW titles plus the demo. Can this new menu be applied to these older games or only the latest ones? I tried it on the ACW demo but could only get the new screen but the two panels in it were blank.
I am probably being a bit dim here but I could use some help please.
One other thing. When starting a scenario there is a description of the scenario in the selection panel. This can be very helpful during play. Is it possible to easily access this description during play?

    Wonderful work and news!

I’m intrigued. Is there somewhere in a WDS game to actually get a graphic display of the OOB with Unit Panels, as you’ve depicted in the “Little Big Horn” description? Am I missing something here or have you just done it for this page?

    Thanks fellas and congrats!

Thanks for the freebies! I appreciate how well you’ve handled the difficulties of the past year and the support you give us. Happy Birthday to everyone at WDS!
